Hello.


Been having an issue with my disco recently and need some help.

95 disco 1 ES model.

Long story short fuse no. 14 on the main fuse box blows everytime I turn my ignition key(even with a 30amp fuse in place! ) . So have no reverse lights or dashboard info. Rev counter and speedo out also.

I've traced as much wiring on the circuit I can see and get to and can't see any problems but now lost on what to do next?
Even changed my dash binnacle in case it was that.

Is there anything else on this circuit or is it just reverse lights and dash?

Anyone have a diagram of this circuit? As Haynes is no use whatsoever and don't seem to have any diagrams in the rave manual I downloaded and view on my phone.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me completely nuts!

Ok now you have traced some of the wiring its time to test, such as removing the reverse switch electrical connecter and then checking if a fuse blows.
Speed transducer circuit can be tested in a similar way, also as the clock also uses F14 test that feed back to the fuse holder but as that will be a short wire feed I doubt if that will be shorting out, but it must be eliminated.

You could also go directly to the rear of the fuse box and start removing/isolating one at time those circuits that share F14 fuse holder and checking in between, and then investigate the faulty circuit.

Nothing wrong with the wiring diagrams in Haynes manual, it shows you all the components in a circuit the wiring involved and their wiring colours what more do u want?

Cant you do a circuit test on the wires in the feed to find what one is earthing out as it sounds like you have a dead short to keep blowing the fuse?
If you can identify the wire causing the problem by chasing it back from the fuse it would be easier to cut it off and run a new feed to whatever it supplies!
Just a thought as I have had similar on mine with my front lights, turned out to be a wire shorting on the body.

After following them I found the problem! Bit of head scratching and testing later I removed the reverse switch connector and the fuse no longer blew. Traced the wiring after removing the centre console and had access to top of the gearbox and found a broken wire shorting out on the gearbox.

I've got a feeling I may of damaged it when I removed gearbox to change the clutch back in August. Looked as if it had been trapped at some point then finally wore through to short out.

Cut the broken bit out and added a couple of spade connections and heat shrinked it and it works just as it should and with the proper 10amp fuse.

Again thank you I was almost at wits end. You've just saved it from 5 litres of petrol and a match.

Although it may yet get the petrol and match treatment as I've just broken the drivers door lock....... :doh:
