I've had a window contol cable snap (front drivers) and read advice on the threads but the problem I have is the window is up and I can't lower it to get at what I need to replace the cable. Anybody know if there is a manual wind down or a trick to getting it to drop? I've tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas. ;-)

Cut the cables and it should drop down with a bit of persuasion. Remove the door card and you will see the cables on the regulator. Cut them with pliers/wire cutters. Then put your palms on each side of the glass and slide it back into the door frame. You can then undo the glass clamps and remove the glass before removing the regulator.
If you are going to replace the cables, then go for a set that have the ends pre fitted. Have a look on ebay i think that they are about £20. I have fit two on mine and another 3 on others, with no problems the oldest was 7 months ago and still going strong. They are a little tricky to get the cables on but they come with a full fitting guide.
