i thought that'd make u see sense. So we have sand traks. hi lift jack. spare tubes, bulbs, fuses, tyre levers. tow ropes. jerry cans(full of course), usual tool kit. spare fluids.

long liftin stropps ! then you can shackle them to yer high lift and use it as a winch ;)

Shackles !! 4 off 5 tonne!

And dunt ferget yer jarmers .gets cowld of a night;)
 
no one else is coming but tow ropes look good wrapped around the front bumper. and how does the hi lft winch work????? I really think i should go on a 4x4 course before. I do have access to a huge turfer if i need it.
 
Yeah thats just what i've been looking at but how do u use them to winch with???? or is that all included in the instructions.

they dont just lift / go up .

you can also use them to lower / pull
So you open em rite up and pull things together
 
but wouldn't u need to have it fixed to something???? finding a tree in the desert could prove tricky. ground anchors on the list then???
 
Use the hi-lift to lift one wheel out of the sand and place your sand ladder under that wheel, lower hi-lift proceed to next whell and repeat process etc. No winch required but by using hi-lift on its side it then becomes a 4 foot pulling aid, it can also be used as a large vice handy as mentioned for breaking the bead of a tyre for removal. Be sure when shopping for one that you get a "proper one" not a cheap Chinese copy that are all over eBay, another good make is Farm Jack all 4x4 stores stock/sell either of them.

Ropes are totally pointless wrapped around the front bumper. They get covered in crud, deteriorate in the sun, take an age to unwrap & in a lot of countries good rope is worth a bit, it'll be the first thing to get nicked.

To which, grills on rear windows (& side if you've got them). If you're in an old II, hasps & staples on the doors are worth considering (Mr Bean style!)

Pony if you're a skwillion miles from home & get robbed cuz you've actually left the truck to go sight seeing. :eek:

Yep, go live out of the truck for a fortnight, both of you & only allow yourself to shop twice & buy nowt but total basics & then carry it all & monitor how much water you get through & do loads of miles & see what breaks, then see if you can mend it without calling the AA...........for starters.

I'm really not trying to put you off, but nothing hurts more than getting half way somewhere & either hating it or having to abandon yer motor & get a flight home.

& try to find some good overland travel books, especially old ones from the 50s/60s, they'll have more relevance.
 
We will be doing that just as soon as the landy is mot'd. and we've got some kit sorted. i'm hoping that the rust around the lower door hinges won't fail.
 
About every offroader has a ground anchor already on their rig. Its called your spare tire. You dig a hole so the tire lays slightly angled downward towards your vehicle.... the wall of the hole on the vehicle side needs to be shear. You hook the winch cable to the middle of the rim and back fill the hole.
 
need some help i have crap road tyres on my freelander which are 195's i was wanting to go bigger to about 215 with an all terrain as my freelander wasn't so free the other day lol. any ideas.
