What is it with people hunting round for cheap ****e oil?
Wilco is not the stuff t use if ya really give a **** about ya vehicle

Use quality oils AND change regularly

if you go up to your local recycling centre and distract the meanderthals working there you can ladel out some used old engine oil from their tanks for nothing !!!!!!!!

In a TDI Landy its not so critical. No point wasting £40 on 5l of Castrol Edge when it will probably do more harm than good as the previous owners will have used a cheapish mineral or semi.

I look for good value for money hence using the chevron semi that meets ACEA A3:B3 specification.
 
15w40 semi is what I plonk in our 300tdi. As long as it meets spec from around 20 years ago when the engine was designed then it's alright.

It'll do more harm than good because it's Castrol.... if the spent the same on developing oils as they did peddling their brands tehy'd make half decent oil.

Why is it not so critical in a TDI? they chuck all sorts of hydrocarbons into the oil, run at extremely high pressures and are worked damn hard. Personally I'd rather spend a bit more on oil than replace an engine... but that's just me...

Yep exactly my thoughts, and even the expensive stuff i change every 4 months with engine flush. Look after your engine and it will look after you :D
 
trade oil from local motor factors mineral for tdi,s and before ,its not changing regulary that causes wear whatever oil you use as long as suitable spec
 
id use it ,it wont last as long as synthetic but then i wouldnt want a synthetic in that long anyhow ,hgvs are different if driving all day its short cold running that engines dont like
 
Right, will get it tomorrow, made my decision!!

Out of interest, what the hell is a 'good qualty filter'? People say to get one. I thought they are all pretty much the same
