Someones excited to be back in a defender having been driving a disco for 1.5 years :) .

Whats the best way to identify the engine for when i service her?

Ident number on the block?

If it int got a turbo it's a NA if it has it's either a TD or a TDI. lots of pictures of landy engines on the net if u google for em.

The easiest way to determine if it's a 2.5td or a 200tdi is to drive it :p

Other than that, the rocker cover on the 2.5td is rounded and smooth, and will have a great big dirty old metal oil filler cap. The 200tdi one is more angular and will have a plastic flat cap on the oil filler.

You could also ask the bloke you're buying it off? :rolleyes:

ah, ok.

Any advice or suggestions? literally just picked it up.

I'll service her asap, and get the cambelt changed (if its a belt not a chain?)

change the oil and filter regularly, don't thrash it all the time and that injun will last for ever.
if you don't know the cam belt has been changed, then do it - it is a very simple engine to work on.
