After yesterdays running issue I thought I would have a look at how bad the oil ingress problem was, I was not pleasantly surprised.

Yes the bottom of the seat box is full of it and there must be oil inside the ECU as well, I removed the security screws on top with plumbing pliers and they were oily. Haven't opened as its all sealed up and don't want to damage it much.

Is this just caused by the injector harness leaking? Can get an after market one for less than £30. Need a new rocker cover gasket as well.

Recon in that case will replace the injector harness, hopefully prevent further contamination of the ECU, which worked OK again after a wipe at the engine end yesterday.

You need to look at the plug on the engine aswell.

If you just replace the injector loom then it will happen again to your new and expensive loom.

Have heard about people putting a kink in the loom at the engine end so that oil dosent run down it but not seen or done this myself.

It is pretty impressive that the oil can work its way all the way through, with gravity and what not.

My plan is to replace the injector loom in the engine itself, under the rocker cover. This would include a new plug to which the main wiring harness would connect. Hopefully this would do the trick. As for the wiring harness back through to the ECU I expect this would require periodic checking and cleaning at the red connector.

I read an article on another forum where the guy replaced his loom and then a week later he found oil in the plug again. Hadnt gone far but it was there. In the end he had to take the male end off the head i think and replace it.

Ill try and find the offending article but the tinterweb here is a bit pants.

possible to get a poor injector loom i would think,but usually replacing them has cured ones ive done ,,maybe go again in time ,but some have had a good few years

Thanks for all the info & help.
It was suggested to me that even once new injector loom in place it would take a long time for remaining oil left in the loom to work its way through to the ECU end.

The old man has a TD5 as well, going to check it for the same problem, just in case; difference is he has had it for 5 years without issue yet mine is a tad newer and had it for a month!

get some spray cleaner and clean out every morning once oil stopped from entering it will clear after a week ish

Thanks james, any particular sort of cleaner to go for or just a general one suitable for electrical connections?

Had exactly the same problem with my TD5 and about the same amount of oil in the seat box. New injector harness cured the problem but it took a few weeks for the remaining oil to migrate down and clear out completely.
Just got to be patient and keep cleaning the red plug and it should end up good as new.
The small amount of oil found each day on the red plug didn't seem to affect performance in the meantime which was a bonus.
