Trouble with Hammerite is that it chips easy once dry.
never used normal white but tried some white primer from halfrauds t'other day and came out like **** and was pretty see through.
go for the stonechip, it lasts pretty well. Have used it on a few cars now and as long as you prep properly and give it a couple of good coats it lasts well (used it on the front bumper of the disco and didnt chip off)

With respect... yes! Its never going to rust, hammerite isn't really made to give a reasonable finish. If you cant spray it then hand paint it.
I did the roof on a 90 last year that was very tired. I just gave it a good clean and a rub down where it needed it. I then put a grey etch primer along the seams and inside the gutters. My local paintshop made me a tin of original land rover colour white paint and I thinned it by 10% for easier application (they will advise you) and hand painted it with a 3 inch good quality brush. You could use a roller.... paint over the primer first, when dry do the lot.
I was pleased with the finish.... I did try spraying it with a rattle can but it was going everywhere and it looked patchy. I know it wasn't as per the book but it worked fine for me
