Can you please start recommending me a good lift kit.

I'm probably going to go for a 1.5" lift because

1)it already sits quite high because of the tyres.
2) I don't want to go too big and do something stupid/roll it/put it in a ditch cos I went too fast.
3)I won't be able to get in.

I did do loads of research on them, but then I lost all my notes, I'm only going for shocks and springs, none of all that extended brake hoses, turret wotsits, and god knows what else. So I would guess it'll be around the £200 mark cos otherwise I'll spend loads and end up with dislocations cones and allsorts, I think just new springs and shocks is enough for now :D.

So, any good companies to buy from? Thanks in advance! :D
 
have you thought of just putting 1 or 2 inch plates under the coil springs saves you renewing the springs and shocks !!!
 
yeah, those block things, but apparently they don't last as long and are not as good quality, you can get them from halfords!

I don't mind buying new shocks and springs as its good to keep replacing bits and pieces as you go along, and I have been saving for one for a while. Just want to get some from a good company.

i had them fitted to my disco 3 months ago no problems dont think i would trust alfords stuff though !!!
have you looked on paddocks ???
as for which ones PASS so many conflicting stories !!!!
 
Thats the problem....conflicting stories, I haven't bought from paddocks before, but in my experience firstfour are good and rebel, now I have to check if either to shocks and springs etc, a look through LRM usually does the trick. :D
 
i paid £220 for bearmach tuffback shocks and bearmach 2" lifted springs.seems to work well on my 90..dislocation cones arnt essential on a 2" lift but if you go bigger i would recommend them.but fitting them with a 2" lift is prevention rather than cure.it all comes down to how much wonga you want to spend.
 
Me and Griffdawg have got TerraFirma kit from Frogs Island.
It's among the best you can get and we paid the special show price of £250 for a full set of springs and shocks.
Give em a ring and see if they'll do you a deal.
 
I would fit longer brake lines though.. £25 from paddocks for goodrich braided hoses, have them on mine, the +2" ones. Means i can fit a lift if i choose to, and makes HUGE difference to the brakes! Easy to fit too.
 
wilts setup sounds good as is the terrafirma stuff. I do however also recommend the spacers. the ones from halfrauds are rear packers for towing vehicles. thats who they are aimed at. I got my old spacers from mill services, but i dont think they are around anymore. also worth a look are llama 4x4.

i guess the question is: how long have you have your springs/shocks, how many miles have they done and are they worn? if not, then maybe spacers are your best option...

boyd, its prob the fresh fluid thats making the difference ;) you will prob not need the extended hoses but its worth looking to see how perished yours are and if they need replacing then why not go for the 2" braided option. As above, come highly recommended.

Nah ive put new fluid in my brakes 5 times in the last 19 months :D
Replaced it cos it was ancient.
The MOT failed it for rusted pipes, replaced it again.
Spongy brakes, bled it right the way through.
Then replaced the, admittedly very perished, rubbers with braided ones, replaced them fluid.

Ok, 4 times, but im about to fit disco axles to it, so ill be doing it again!

They did make a difference, but as you say i went from knackered perished rubber ones to braided ones that were all shiny and new. Did make a big difference, as did replacing the old fluid/air mix that was in there the first time!

Made an enourmous to the 205 me and a friend use for rallying too - they had been bled through before we repalced the hoses also.
 
Hmm, thanks all for the replies.

The block things are for people towing aren't they, but to be honest I have been set on a proper set of new springs and shocks for some time and if im going to go for a lift I might as well do it properly and avoid the blocks....having said that I will prob look into it further as it is an option.

I think my current springs and shocks have been on since new, its 1992, K reg.

So you reckon terrafirma, 2" is good, I will have a look around.

yes, yes, actually, thinking about it, they might have been £265 - I is very old and me memory's goin!

If you go on the Frogs Island web site, they'll add up to £360. That's why I would phone them and negotiate a deal - if they can do them £100 less at the shows, they can do them for £100 less in the credit crunch!
 
they were 225 at eastnor AND billing tre... well actually they were 250 at billing but i got you them for 225 :D
