ok so now I am confused went into halfrauds just to check on oil prices "how is it they never ever come down" and looked in there little book for what oil to use on my 2006 td4 auto well first it said 1997-2008 20-40s
on the next line it said 2006 on 10-30s, i am pretty sure it should be 10-30s but am i right.

The bmw engine uses 5w-30 fully sythetic .
I normaly buy there on offer @ £17.50 4L castrol magnatec as you need 2 .

Being old school I'd use a 10-40 synthetic. I just can't see a 30 supporting the bearings correctly once they have worn a larger clearance?? Imho Most engine manufacturers only specify a thin oil to improve fuel efficiency with a disregard for maximum engine life!!

Glad you said that. I stocked up with 20L when it was cheap. 10w40 castrol magnatec because I liked their advert when I was little.

I'm sticking with the 5W-30 fully synthetic stuff.

Not too fussy about the brand but usually Castrol or Fuchs.

But it must have Mercedes-Benz MB229.51 or BMW Longlife-04 on the pack.

Singvogel.

I think turbos need fully synthetic.

Not strictly true. It's regular oil changes that are more important with a turbo. I ran my Ford Maverick (re-badged Nissan Terrano) 2.7 turbo intercooler for 138,000 miles on Comma 15w40 semi synthetic diesel oil changed every 6,000 miles with absolutely no engine or turbo problems. I sold it on to a farmer down the road 3 years ago and it's still going strong!!

I use 15 40 JCB oil, have done for about 85,000miles, the previous 100,000miles was whatever Marshalls use on Freelanders, i generally do an oil change every 6000
