Need to replace my aircon belt as it snapped/disintergrated/disappeared and thought I may as well replace the fan belt while I'm at it. Mine's an N reg 300TDi registered in 95 but how do I know which belt to buy? There are, I hear, two slightly different lengths, anyone know?

the different size belts relate to the size of the pully on the alternator.
you should be able to source the correct one by your chassis number (assuming it's the original engine)

Cool, er, ok, I know my chassis number, I know I want a fan belt, how do I connect the two? :p

So do paddocks... link is above.

In your chassis number the last two alpha codes, before the numbers start, along the lines of LA MA NA etc... this is the model year of your Disco. Eg. LA is model year 94, MA is model year 95, NA is model year 96. Yours will either be LA or MA as it was registered in 95 so if the numbers after all the letters are less than or equal to 163103 you need the more expensive belt, if it's greater than or equal to 163104 you need the cheaper belt on the link above ;)

Cheers,

Ah ta DTZ but as ever in my complex life, it's not that simple (I actually thought it would be - I only want a fan belt!) My chassis no is a TA not an MA - TA511594....I bet I end up buying 2 different belts ffs!

My bad... there is no model year code NA, TA is used for 95/96. So you'll be needing the cheaper belt then as TA is later than MA ;)

Cheers,

Where dyou find that DTZ? couldnt see it on paddocks

a Serpentine belt is what you are after fella

Click Discovery 1 on the left hand menu, choose Engine Service Items and it's either page 1 or 2... can't remember which offhand.

Cheers,

Ta very muchly..(why do we all have to talk funnillilly here? :D ) I called Paddlocks today and asked em and it was the cheap 'un. Then I went to buy it - £6.05 - bargain I fought..then they added VAT and as I wanted it quick they wanted 10 bloomin' squid postage so it was like 20 squids....so I bought one on Ebay instead for a tenner including postage! Guess Paddocks not so good for single small items.

I must say that I find Paddocks just great - but like lots of things in life you need to know how to use them best.

For example, every time I order stuff from them, I'll always add something else for the the future (no, not the weekend;) ) like front pads, or a filter kit or, or or or - well, it is a Land Rover after all, it's going to need bits !!!!

Cheers & good luck, I'm deep in preparation now for my trip of a lifetime to Morocco !!!! - 4 weeks to go !!!!!!
