I have cooked the engine in my 1983 110 and been told that a 200tdi off a defender will be a straight swap. Unfortunately they are like hens teeth!
Anybody know what other engines fit without changing mounting points or using conversion kits?
Cheers

get a scrap disco with a decent 200tdi lump in it then get the exhaust adapter from whatsis face you,ll find it on here sum where, steve parkers i think it is..no good with names

No way! It has a 2.25 petrol and cant pull the skin off a rice pudding!
I thought the disco 200tdi had the turbo in the wrong place. Bear with me I'm learning!!!!

why would yer what to pull the skin orf a rice pudding? just cut through it wiff yer spoon and eat it with some of the rice from underneath it or are yer still lurning how to eat aswell?

so yer bought a landy with a 2.25 and it was ok till yer ****ed it but now its a sack of ****y that wouldnt pull a skin off a rice pudding. why did you buy it in the first place then??

seeings as he now has to do another engine swap, why would he wana put another gutless engine in when for a little more effort he could have a much better block?

i duno if the 2 1/4 petrol has the same mounts as the later 2.5 NA and TD, but if so then a 200TDI from a disco will fit straight on. You can get a conversion pipe from steve parker land rovers for bout £120 to compensate for the turbo being in the wrong place.

I duno what gearbox you have though, might be worth gettin a defender LT77 if that isnt what you already have.

yeah, you tell him font of all knowledge. fit a permenant 4wd gearbox to a vehicle that isnt designed to run in 4wd on tarmac, then when he ****s his front axle you can tell him he needs a new un cos of your lack of knowledge

engine mounts are different and you will also need a new rad and intercooler to do it this way.

why would the gearbox make a difference, surely it is the transfer box that puts out permanant 4 wheel drive

well you seenm ter be the expert in this field, i must be doing something wrong so im listening to you and learning

christ i was only tryin to give the lad a bit of advice rather than hound him with sarcastic comments like some people. so maybe fitting an LT77 wouldnt be the best idea , i only said it cos i thought it mite be easier that tryin to mate the tdi to a gearbox it aint made for.

stop being a ****

right before you all get overeggcited he did say it was an 83 110. assuming it is then it'll be the first of the 110's din't they have Permanent 4wd.

ffs you advise a bloke to do something you have no experience of, you tell him what you thought "might" be a good idea. and then you tell me to "stop being a ****".

if you are going to advise someone on doing something make sure you know what you are talking about. ffs the 200tdi conversion into a series is a bit more complex that a 300 quid engine and a steve parker downpipe.

Aye That's what threw me but I was told the very first 110's had selectable 4wd and 2.25's and they changed em for the 84 models
