My 110 has a 300tdi fitted by M&D Engineering in 1999. It was when they fitting new engines that were taken as spares for the camel trophy but not used. Because of this it has no engine number.
What i want to know is there any way of telling if the engine is before or after 1996 as this was the change from long fan belt to short fan belt.
Was just ordering my service items and need to know which one to get.
I m ay have to take it off and measure it but wont get done this weekend and wanted the stuff to do the job next weekend. Hey ho!
Cheers guys

I have no idea:), but, ain't they pretty cheap? Get both. If you get only one, buggers law says it'll be the wrong one:D

Tiz easy. Get a bit of string, run it around the path of the belt. Measure the length in mm. Go to halfrauds. Look at the belts and choose a belt with the same number of mm ( fir example 1045mm. Look at the style - V/flat/ribbed (!!) and choose the appropriate style a/b/c/d.

Simples :)

Dont forget to allow adjustment - so get it on the tight size.

tis sorted its a pre 96 engine with a longer 1595mm belt. i took it off yesterday and noticed some faint writing so cleaned it up with some white spririt and could just make out 1595! had a job to read it mind!
All ordered for the job now.

I was about to say that the tell tell is the alternator pulley diameter. I think it is something like 55mm and 75mm diameter pulleys. Larger pulley longer belt.....assuming you know the length of the two belts :D
