Is there another location for the spider unit if it is not under the radio behind the heater controls?

96 Discovery, 4.0L, V8, Petrol, USA

in my series one discovery it is behind the fusebox fasia under the driver it is behind the fusebox and above. why?

It is possible that it does not have smart spider fitted, unfortunately I dont have exact ETM's for US spec D1's - am I right in thinking it has Gems distributorless EFI rather than the 14 CUX that european cars have ?

Thanks for the ideas.

Just checked behind the fuse box and the spider unit is not there. Any other ideas?

I believe it is the distributorless EFI system since it has no distributor and a bank of 4 coil things rather than just having 1 coil.

It is a 2-button keychain remote. I have found the green receiver box but not the immobilizer unit. If it does not have a spider unit should it still have an immobilizer unit?

If we had the corect ETM it would be easy,as your car has GEMS EFI I think its unlikely that it has a smart spider as GEMS has immobilisation functions built into it.(As with 96-99 TDI Auto Discos with Bosch EDC fly by wire diesel control)
You might do better to ask on a US based forum such as Land Rovers only.com as there would be sure to be owners familiar with what kit is fitted to NAS spec D1's.
