A work friend of mine has a W reg freelander and has been told that
if he doesn't want to jack his suspension to get a few more inches of clearance he could fit larger diameter wheels & tyres.

Does anyone know if this is true or just a bit of pub talk. Surely any change in the wheel diameter would cause problems when the vehicle bottoms out on bumps etc. If it could be done does anyone know what sizes could be fitted ?:rolleyes:

Mate, do a bloody search will you, tyres are the biggestsest bloody wind up on here.

Can someone confirm the J and offset of Land Rover wheels..

PDC = 114mm
Nut Lug = 12x1.50
Center Bore = 64.1
15" = 5j = 46
16" = 6j = 46
17" = 7j = 46

Std Tyre fitment..

195/80/15
215/65/16
225/55/17

Now going on the information above from previous posts,
205/80/16 fits without any issues,
if you stick to these dimensions overall
then any match should fit..

If your wheels are after-market then check the J & Offset...

P.S I make no guarantees, look for yourself and choose wisely..

No mate we get it all the time here. Even I'm guilty, when I was new I asked what people thought of the Pirelli Scorpion which still counts as a tyre question. At least the OP can spell and use correct punctuation, that goes a long way to mitigating the issue.

My mate tells me that he's just looked under his freelander and the prop shaft's been removed. Does it really make that much difference to fuel saving or is there any other reason for taken them off?

yes

coz it hides a screwed up transmission :(
 
"Prop removed for increased fuel economy" is the biggest and most bare arsed lie used by car salesmen when it comes to Freelanders. I hope your friend has deep pockets if he ever wants 4x4 again.
 
owners take their props off for road use and fuel economy etc etc, some owners have mashed transmission, trade in the car, salesman removes prop and says nothing to new owner.......
 
anyway chavvybloke, I think the best option on a freebie is 205/80 on steel rims might even be 215/80

a search on google you'll find loads from the ole freelander club and pics of them too
