why wait for the gasket? RTV sealant is all that is on mine and yes load those bad boys up with grease before you put them in, dont fill everything with grease but a bloody good slathering in grease never did anybody any harm now did it![]()
Oooo okay thanks for that, obviously I'll have to separate the bearing from the race when push the race in, so should I grease under the race to help it go in?
Bearings are all in the hub
But the hub will not slide on the stub axle? It's as if the inner bearing is too small?
Also the swivel housing is loose on one side and leaking easy fix?
Thank you again this ain't going well!!

You have to give them a firm push sometimes, at the right angle. they are machined to the thou. As far as the swivel is concerned, you might wanna consider a rebuild of this whole assembly. What exactly do you mean "on one side"?
You did get the inner race off the stub axle, didn't you?? Failing that check part numbers to make sure you have the correct bearings and stub axle.
Thanks guys right the stub had too much grease on stopping the bearing goin on! All ok now, and on.
That's the left hand side sorted now for the right hand.. I spilt brake fluid over the swivel housing and it must of eaten the seal, the swivel feels loose, so can u get a repair kit? I did replace the stub on this side too..
Also where's the drain plug? It's a 1997 300tdi cannot find the drain I've found the filler...
AFAIK there isnt a drain plug on later disco's as EP90 was replaced by one shot grease. Can someone verify this for me please?
If the housing is loose then it prob needs resetting and some more shims. Did you unbolt the top pin to move the brake hose? this might have caused it. Its trial and error but you basically want to add shims until there is a bit of drag on the swivel (all rods detached). There is a specific amount if you want to get technical. Make sure you lift the housing while tightening to top pin bolts. If there is vertical movement then add more shims to the top pin. You don't need to touch the bottom pin; the housing can be removed and replaced from the ball with this bottom pin, and its bearing, in place. You might want to consider changing both bearings too.
Yes I just realised I've removed both the bolts on top for the brake hose bracket, would this be causing the leak?
