hi there anyone had problems with the rear bearings on fl2 I am now on my third bearing first went at 72000 second 78000 and third fitted today at 88000. second bearing was put down to being a duff bearing. dealer says that after consulting with land rover tech if the third bearing goes that the hub and flange should be replaced. look forward to hearing others experience.

Freelander 2 is very difficult to diagnose the correct wheel bearing (if indeed it is a bearing gone) as the noise can transfer down the prop from the front.

What's the symptom of the wheel bearing failure?

I've never changed a f2 wheel bearing while I've been at the garage, however a good friend who works at a different garage has changed three or 4,
when getting a new bearings, britpart sell a complete hub bearing, knuckle and the round arm bit that fits the the strut, I can't remember if its for the front or back but it saves having to mess about pressing bearings and hubs out the knuckle. And it was only a few quid more expensive than a lr hub
you do have to put up with it being britpart **** though but if it lasts (haha) it would save a lot of hassle.
On another note are the garage sure its not a rear diff as these are getting to be fairly common and give a similar noise.

It's possible the hub was damaged when they pressed the original bearing out, so any new bearing will have a limited life span. Best to bite the bullet and have a new hub assembly fitted for peace of mind.

I think the damage was done when they took it apart or during reassembly and they don't want to admit it

See what this next bearing does, like they say it might have been faulty parts/faulty fitting, so it should be alright this time, what do u think of your f2? I think they're fantastic vehicles.

I am happy as a pig in s--- with my fl2 se it pulls the caravan no bother and has been great in the snow 100 times better than fl1 not so happy with the fact that its on its third rear passenger side wheel bearing .not happy you have to consult the topx1 online when you want to find something out and at £13 an hour its not cheap. gone are the days when you had a socket set and basic hand tools and you could take it apart in the morning and put it back together in the afternoon. p.s pitty new range rover owners as the car talks through a computer server. what happened to keeping it simple

What other problems you had like I find the f2s to be fairly reliable, they are great though can't wait for them to come down in price.

other problems are mainly to do with rear handbrake shoe expanders seizing burning out linings and requiring complete replacement.. I know there are also problems with steering rack premature wear rear diff bearings and ventura sticking closed(like a butterfly on an carb) air flow at start up, stuck shut it wont allow the engine to start symtums are black smoke out of exhaust sounds like fuel starvation but isint getting air.hope that helps.
