hi
if any has read my profile they will see im rebuilding my defender and want to make it go as fast as poss.
has any one any idea whats the biggest engine i can fit in to a defender without too much body modification, im happy to get a new bonnet made and have a friend who makes bespoke wings but i need to find out what will fit , another ex raf mate said he heard of an isreali officer fit a v12 from a rolls royce or bentley but can anyone confirm this .

It's worth remembering that you're still running on beam axles. The Defender was designed to do around 75/80, the newer ones are a bit quicker, but if you want one to go much faster, you need to start thinking about suspension, brakes and steering.
I get to speak to a lot of Land Rover owners and for many part of the appeal is that they don't feel the need to rush everywhere, and a quite happy o sit back ad let the world go by, but still at the legal limit if you want to.
If you feel the need to go as fast as possible, have you bought the right vehicle?
 
everyone seems to be missing the point, its my projects that keep me sane.
i own an old airfield in dorset and the only criteria about my builds is it needs to be bloody fast.obviously i need to stop eventually but for going around corners and the suspension it doesnt really matter. this will be my 8th project in the last 10 years, you will be surprised how fast you can get a escort cabriolet going with a large pulse jet engine attached.as for the bespoke wings, i see someone pointed this bit out, he normally makes wings and panels for rolls or bentley and the odd supercar but will make anything he is asked.
 
thanks but wont be fitting a pulse jet into this, just something i wanted to try once. fighting in the falklands wasnt as scarey as the test run in the escort.

But on a more serious note. Have you thought of puttin the engine in the back?? i,e flip the drive over and turn the body round ? ;) :cool:
 
piccies on their way.all im after is a bit of info but everyone seems to want to rip the ****, i thought forums like this were meant to be helpful, im not out to impress anyone , i get bored so i need to do stuff , i spose i could get a job at b&q but ive not started dribbling yet.
 
Go for a Meteor, the tank version, that was made a Lode Lane, so retains some authenticity.
