yep. Im sure its to do with timing. like i said i don't have the pointer on the bell housing so its just going to be time consuming to get it just right, and i know there slow but this is just holding back big time. The engine does sound good and not missing just no power.
might slip the timing gear back or elongate slots on pump a bit, just to see if i can get it past that point where its peak is if you know what i mean.

Thinking about it, I think G-Man has hit it on the head - my old Buick had a similar problem - granted it;s a different engine, but I had similar symptoms.
Turned out the chain had stretched and the timing sprockets had worn really badly.... i spent DAYS ****ing around with the timing, and it would be all over the shop until i replaced said items.....

......i already knew this.....its a common fault but nobody listens to me lol, even elongating the holes in the pump won't do much, it needs a new chain n sprockets as they determine the cam timing, the pump just runs off of that.....
oh and its not unheard of for a chain to snap......

I did play with the timing on saturday and cleaned out the fuel system as i found lots of water in the separator didn't elongate slots but its tight to the end and now i have an almost normally slow landy, pulling much better and not holding back so much. So next week timing chain, like to do today but missus has The Flue so have three kids to watch over,

just hope the chain is the same as a 366 code engine, best count links before i order.
Does your engine have the butterfly valve in the intake to provide a vacuum for a servo? If so make sure its opening/rod not bent/adjusted properly because if not it will choke your engine making it struggle to pull. The connecting rod on mine came off once (hence the bodge to hold it on but has since been fixed) and I struggled to achieve 35 odd mph.

no does not have butterfly, played about with timing again and i reckon its doing bout 60 flat out now and i dont think its gonna do more than that + i dont think i want to do more than that.
my bro has a serieis 2 a diesel and it keeps up with his, so Job done me thinks.
will still check timing chain though. Thanks again to all. DWR
