so went down the local landy garage today and got talking to one of my mates.

got talking about engines and he was on about the izuzu trooper 3.5 v6 petrol engine, geaarbox and t box. staight into a 90. this engine delivers about 220bhp.

thought it might be an idea has anyone ever done it or got any ideas if it would work without too many mods.

Two dirty words , izuzu, and v6 petrol.:)

No.

Just no ....

Bro-in-laws bro had a trooper with that engine, they live on a farm at Crich in Derbyshire (they own the whole hill almost) and he bought it for stock moving and towing trailers, thinking the same, that the power would make it ideal.

It isn't, it was as slow as a slow thing, he couldn't use any of the power in the fields 'cos it spun wheels too easily unless you had a feather touch and basically was gutless .. lots of power, no torque for pulling or slogging through mud .. all revs and sound and feckorl go ..

Driving solo, on the road, it was fine. Loaded on road it was slow, unloaded or loaded off-road it was ****e.

'course, he could have had a ****e motor, but I doubt it, he is known for being a dab hand fixing engines and stuff and runs his own garage as a sideline.

Power certainly isn't everything in Landyworld ... ;)

There is a company that makes the conversion plates so there is no additional welding needed. However, I have heard that a better conversion is the 2.8L TD; you can still use loads of landy parts on it.

Better to go for one of the Isuzu diesel engines if you have to. They are strong, reliable, and easy to get parts for. Petrol is not the way to go for all of the above reasons. My mate has Isuzu engines in both his Landies and his Trooper funnily enough and swears by them.

A good 3.5 on SU's properly built my bro had it rolling roaded it was 212BHP and stupid torque figure. Never used 1st gear would drop down to 600RPM really smooth and pull like fook. Aparently the limit for twin SU's is around the 220BHP so he didn't do too badly. Cost wise in parts alone it was around £1200 labour was free machining was a wee bit more lol but the rolling road took some time and more money to get the correct needles setup.

Knocked the socks off some so called "race engines" built by "eggspurts"

He is building my v8 for me on a budget. Std 3.5 but as new +20 thou should be good in a little 80 inch series 1
