I'm working my way through the owners manual that was in the glovebox and am a little scared!!

I notice that there is a way to get in and started if the remote fob fails involving key turns but also notice it mentions you need a code number and the key turns relate to this.

Nowhere in my manual/pack is a code relating to this - how the dickens will I fare - is there a way of getting this code relatively cheaply - or is the disco a dead duck if the fob dies?!?

Yes you will need the "override" access emergency code which if you don't have it will be supplied to you by your LR main dealer service dept, on production of vehicle details and proof of ownership... if they feel like it.

I expect you have tried a replacement battery.

Bloody marvellous - so no interrogating some mysterious plug with a cheap cable off the bay then?

Would a hugely expensive diagnostic machine be able to give me the code?? - I have access to some of the latest aftermarket diagnostic machines and brains in the business. Would it be worth a few pints to give that a try?

Yes the code be there hidden in the ECU software and only if a "hugely expensive diagnostic machine" or "the latest aftermarket diagnostic machines and brains" know where to find it.

I shall speak with the man that will gain me access to such gear and get him on the case. I'm pretty confident the chap knows his stuff - he's recently come up with a fix to stop BMW's being nicked in the latest way - developed it in a matter of weeks apparently!

I'm sure decoding the ECU on a disco for the distress code will be a no-brainer.

Your local indy LR mechanic will have an Autologic or similar, they would normally sync you a new key fob and tell you the Emergency access code for about 30 quid, in my experience

Been speaking to the FiL - turns out he has a few mechanics from the local LR indy on diagnostics training courses with his firm.

He's going to ask the relevant questions and maybe have the disco in one session as an example vehicle - might be job done!
