Hi guys looking for a couple of pointers to properly identify a project hybrid that my mate just bought for an offroader. Its a bitsa, we were told it was range rover chassis and running gear fitted with a 3.5 v8 with a series 3 tub and wings and a defender front end. The rest ie bulkhead etc is handmade with pretty hefty steel. However what we were told on closer inspection dosen't seem to tally, but we've only ever owned discoverys between us so have very limited knowledge of series, defender or range rover. The chassis has a wheelbase of 87.5 inch between hub centres fitted with pro comp 2 inch lift springs and shocks, it has disk brakes all round, theres no obvious evidence of any major chassis modifications about the only other thing that may help at moment is that the gearbox has what appears to be a vacuum operated diff. So to sum up really what we want to find out is if the chassis is a range rover article and any pointers on how to identify the rest of the running gear, axles, gearbox etc. We don't want to be taking it playing only to find we're running a hefty v8 through a 2 1/4 gearbox or axles that can't cope with the power and the logbook dosen't give any clues either as the vehicle was registered on a Q plate as a landrover hybrid around 2002 so any advice would be really appreciated.

sounds like you have a rrc transfer box, is it 5speed or auto?

as daft says :nopics:

discs all round does point it to the rrc axles as well,

Send a pm to a moderator...its easy to change, just do it before you get spammed or hijacked..Sirus is online

With regards to pics took some of the car earlier but not any close ups of components and can't get them on pc at mo due not being able to find bloody cable. i'll try an upload some pics 2moro if specific pics of axles etc would help tell me what to photograph and i'll take them 2moro.

Nathan..Although it may seem daft to have bought it without really knowing what it was it was cheap carries a land rover badge has a v8 and will be excellent fun in the muddy stuff without any worries of breaking the family cars as this is purely a toy.
