Can some one please answer me this, am I right in thinking the only thing inside a freelander 1 key is a Philips ID46 PCF7936 transponder ? If so is it possible for me to buy a key blank and a transponder and get it cut/programed for my car? Now I know this may sound a little long winded but I know some one who works for a key cutting shop who can do land rovers and would do it for me thanks

I got one done at a high street key cutters. They cut the key and cloned the transponder in my key. It was about £25 I think.

Just been quoted by Timsons £60.00.
Don't know if it would work: Get a key from a scrappy, transfer the guts to a new blank then get it cut and cloned from your key?
Just found http://www.eurocarkeyshop.com. Blank with transponder 22euro

Thanks lads from what I can see the only thing in the key is the transponder I can not take mine apart because the car is in for repair ,I have spoken to Timsons and for one of there keys its is £50 but if I brought my own in he would do it for £10 hence the first question . Can I take it that this one

I got my own new blank key but it didn't come with the transponder. They cut it and supplied the chip to go inside.

That's an idea I thought they didn't do the chips on there own

The chip can only be programmed once!

Where? It seems that timsons prices and services differ from store to store.

mine was £60 from Timpson's he got through a few chips before he got it right.

Key from ebay. Chip supplied and programmed at Timpson in Helston Tesco, Cornwall. It was about 3 or 4 years ago mind.

As they are franchises, I'm not surprised that prices vary.
