basically my insurance ran out today mid day and didnt think about renuing it a few days before. so i now cant drive till the brokers are open monday :(

but back to business.
im a 19 year old student, with no NCD.
the vehicle is a 97 reg defender 90 CSW 300tdi

was with sureterm on my dads, after my accident it was at 1900 with me as a named driver(rediculous i know)

want to change it to me as the policy holder to build up my NCD, but sureterm have quoted 3800 which is just stupid.

basically can anyone recomend a decent company for me to insure my land rover with.

When I lived in sunny Devon, I used to tax my landy for light goods farmin and it made the insurance cheaper too. Can you still do that over there?
 
just been on the phone to the insurance company.
completely forgot to add a claim.
i was rear ended by a polo, he was at fault etc.
even though i wasnt at fault it has bumped my premium by 400. how the hell does that work, i get hit so my insurance goes up!!!! bastards!!!!
 
It all depends if you claimed or not.
I was crashed into and written off, and had to claim so I could get a new car, and the insurance went up by almost £30 a month, even though I bought something which was much smaller engined etc.
Still affecting me now, almost 4 years later!
 
i did claim, but its still rediculous.
it increases is by 30 odd a month but for a student that does rack it up.
 
I've always used Lancaster for my Landy, as they give me off road cover, agreed valuation etc, I won't tell you what I pay, cos it'll make you pig sick (but then I'm old and decrepit and been driving since before you was a twinkle!! :) )
All you can really do is ring round for quotes, and jot down what they offer you in with the policy, then when you have a few that will maybe leave you with a few limbs and vital organs, go back to the most favourable ones and try playing them off against each other; most companies will drop a few quid to get the business! ;)



If you were hit by another driver, your insurance Co should have recovered their losses from the other person's ins, but I guess if they weren't insured, then yours would take the hit; unfair I know, but sadly there are so many twots at it now!
I've got a crippled Astra sitting on my drive that I can't afford to repair to sell, cos some lying cow rear-ended me and left me with false details :mad:

this time im with flux , last year i used lancaster , both are good in my experience, limited milage will reduce your premium too,
 
when i call the insurance for a qupte or renewal etc,
first i go thru it all and they say ok sir it comes to eg £400 ouch i say ,
then i ask what makes it cheaper, so they usualy say well limited milage will, not using it for work/ commuting, change the excess that makes a difference, keep it on social domestic and pleasure,
then if you need it for work you can call then and change it for a week , usualy costs £10, then you can buy more miles if your limited to say 7k you can buy another 3k for £25
once you have a basic cover you can change it for pennies, most companies are ok as long as your honest with them.
all depends on how desperate you are to get it on the road.
 
This thread may prove useful to me as I've had a motability car for three years, I got it out of necessity at the time and as they provide you with insurance you loose what no claims you had after two years, so I'm just about to start all over again.

Unless anyone knows if the fact that you have been insured and driving without any occurances get taken into consideration by companies or brokers for this situation?
 
Some companies will 'credit' you with NCD - as long as you can show that you were 'claim-free' for the period in question, try asking; if you don't ask, you don't get! :)
 
I use direct line, I had no insurance for a while when I had no car, but was insured as a named driver on my dads who was with direct line too, when I went for insurance with them they just added my NCD from the years I had been a named driver :D
 
it has a heck of a lot to do with job title as much as past claims im a doorman wagon driver and own my own company and the figures differ greatly depending what i call myself a doorman for example who doesnt drive in rush hour traffic every morning and is highly unlikely to get anyone vandalise his pride and joy pays nearly twice as much as the wagon driver who goes to work at 6 am half asleep with all the other idiots on the road drives anything upto 10 hours a day and comes home tired in rush hour leaving his car outside during the evening/night while all the little twoccers are about

My previous car was a classic car and I got classic car insurance (which doesn't accrue NCD). I lost my previous 5 years of NCD :( So I got a letter from the insurer showing I had not claimed for 4 years and my new insurer has agreed to convert it to 4 years NCB... yipeee :)
