hi everyone
after seeking help last evening , on hwo to get the difflock off , im now faced with another problem , the best way i can explain it is......... when comeing to a stop extremly slow , its starts to rock back and forwards like the handbrake is being applied then released any ideas what this could be ...........

it could just be the play in your drive train or a worn uj

hi mate ,
sorry should of explained better my fault ..............
i managed to free the difflock knob off it was seized the con rod .........the problem now is there is a rocking when comeing to a stop at low speeds ........... just like applying the hand brake and releaseing and shakes like fcuk ........could this be the discs ?????

i had this a few months ago, ended up being the suspension bushes. couple of hours with a set of polybush's finest and it was sorted

Warped hand brake drum?

Mine was similar when I got it and I found that the drum was warped and the handbrake adjusted right up. Used to snatch when going slowly. Let the cable off a bit and it's fine for now but will need doing sometime. Of course it could be something completely different!

Jack the back axle off the ground and try turning the rear prop. It should turn smoothly but you can feel any tightness in either the drum or the UJ's.

I had that problem with my sister's 300 Tdi and it turned out to be the handbrake was overtightened - slackened it off a bit and problem disappeared .
Don't know it only happened at low speeds , but it felt pretty nasty at the time .

You are probably pulling the handbrake on BEFORE STOPPING, and the torque rocks the whole engine/gearbox on the rubber mounts, then it rocks from side to side a few times and the car moves back and forward as it does so, and you get the feeling you describe.

As it is NOT good for anything to do this, work out how to prevent it:

STOP - hold the foot brake on.
Apply handbrake.
Release footbrake slowly / gently.

End of problem.

i found the problem to be the hand brake drum so ive just let it off a bit now ok ater this weekend green laneing i think it must be full of ****
