Low key fob battery has pinged up now. Are the batteries just needed for remote CDL? Won't effect starting or owt.? Might be a couple of days until I can get new ones .

If the immobiliser and EKA are not turned off in the BECM, you will have to enter the EKA code to start it. With immobiliser and EKA set to on, the BECM requires a valid FOB code to allow the engine to start.

Am I wrong then? The key fob battery is needed for the immobiliser too? I've never known a car that has that, I thought it was proximity reading the chip in the key that has no power source. I've never had a P38 but this is a terrifying prospect to me If you need battery power for that. Someone school me please.

How long have you got :vb-weyes:.

For its age it’s very complex system and can depend on many things. Usually cos owners have ignored the signs.

If you search EKA or BECM p38 you will probably find enough bedtime reading till the end of the week.

Yes, the P38 requires a valid FOB code to start. No FOB code and you have to enter the EKA code via the door lock a real PITA. That is why I run mine with the Immobiliser and EKA set to off, you can then open and start the car with just the key blade.
The L322 is totally different.

But you have to point out the immobiliser is not in reference to the engine ecu immobiliser that could still lose its sync

That is true. On the diesel, the immobiliser is actually a mobiliser, the BECM sending a code the the EDC to allow starting. It's a fixed code and if the BECM loses the code, the only way to recover is via diagnostics, you read the EDC code and write it back to the BECM. That situation can happen what ever the Immobiliser and EKA are set to in the BECM

Not just the L322. I would go as far as to say: The P38 is different... to every other car!

Man that is a complicated arrangement!

@Flossie - Stand really still and don't do ANYTHING until you have a new battery! :)

If Flossie has a Nanocom, all he needs to do is turn off the Immobiliser and EKA functions in the BECM, then the FOB battery will not matter.

passed its mot today after spending over £1300 quid on repairs, then told i had a advisory on front bottom arm ,play in ball joint ,only been on twelve months.

Possibly the hole the ball-joint goes into has been deformed so it just wrecks the new ball-joint? Or someone fitted Britpart.

found a friend a rather nice D1 commercial.. :)
