looking to get two new batts for my defender dont want to spend silly money on optima or oddasy what would you recomend as 1 will be for the car and the other for the winch and roof lights

Varta make good batteries. You want one with the highest CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) as possible and the biggest bugger that will fit into your battery compartment.

Iv got a Numax cxv-x, its awesome. 1000cca. 86Ah.
baragin as well.
and its got a cool LED on the top to tell you the battery condition.
