Look in Tech bulletins there is a cure in there for leaking tailgate seal.

Cheers mate, found it in the end. My Rave version does not seem to have the tech bulletins but got to it in the end. Seems I had the seal correctly installed but still it got wet, will redo it tomorrow.......

Can you drill and tap a left-handed screw in there?

Update: It is all dry in the car. But then it has not rained yet.

Anyway, cleaned up rusted spots, removed loose rust and blisters and primed over. Cleaned out spare wheel compartment and rust treated and primed. Thinking of stone chipping the compartment for the hell of it.
While doing all this decided to clean up as many rust spots and areas that need attention as I could see. Then oooooooooooooooooooh dear.
I found the bolts and fastenings around the lower tail gate's cables had rusted beyond salvage. Could not undo the bolts as soon as I tried the heads stripped. Nasty. Tried cutting a slot in the top and no, will not budge. Tailgate end is fine in that I have removed the bolt.
So I got a bit extreme and cut the bolt head off the car end. Removed the cables and plan to order new ones.
Now how to get the threaded stud that is left in there out?????

Once that is done I will get some gas struts too as they are shot, as in rusted, but strangely still work.
The rest is still drying out. Sound proofing sponge is near dry in the airing cupboard (nobody tell the missus!).

Bolts are worrying. May need to cut a new slot in the top and try again. Or get a new nut welded onto it to spin out.

Hmmm.

Well I have definitely fixed the wet patch under the rear seats by cleaning the drains out.
Problem is it is still getting wet in the spare wheel compartment. It seems the rain water is leaking in via the tailgate rubber seal. Despite sealing it correctly as per the Rave info, the O shaped part of the seal is just too compressed at the top corners causing water to run down the entire length each side, in the process it is getting into the inner edge rather than just running down the outer edge to the cuts where it should drain out.

I cannot find any seals for sale other than eBay, and they are at opposite ends of the expense scale.
Any recommendations where to get a good but cheap one?
Cheers in advance.

Well update time....... Weather has been crap so huge delay. All dried out. Mostly, find out more over the next few days......

Got rid of the remainder of the rusted bolt stud from the lower gate cables by drilling out and re-tapping.
Primed and re-sprayed entire floor pan in the back
Ajusted the tailgate aperture lip out about 5mm as per Rave bulletin.
Sanded down around the entire lip and masked up most of the backend.
Primed, re-sprayed, and eventually refitted, the rubber tailgate seal.
New lower gate cables and gas struts.

Not refitted the sponge and carpet yet as I want to make sure it stays dry.
If all ok I am planning on moving onto the door pillar refurb and headlining replacement following Dopey's How To as that seems to make sense to do this now once I have confirmed all is dry and before I put all the panels back etc........

Also need to replace my bonnet release lever, cannot see how it comes off yet but not looked that hard. Another job is the rear passenger window seal, rusted and bubbling really badly.

Hmmmm, more mild weather needed.

There is a solution on RangeRovers.net (I think thats where I saw it). Remove the tailgate seal and bend the metal lip outwards approx 3-5mm and refit seal. This was a recommendation from Land Rover because of this very problem.

My missus has a wet patch. I tried bending the lips back but it's still there. Advice needed. :D:D:D

I think we need photos..... I obviously have the wrong aperture as the back end is very wet again!
