Driving through the Cairngorms and noticed a smell of hot diesel... open the bonnet and find that one of the injector waste pipes has split and is ****ing fuel all over my nice hot engine. Being in the middle of nowhere I struggled to think of a quick fix... turns out the flexi hose off a bicycle pump is an absolutely perfect fit. Bloody love how easy it is to fix a landy.

On a serious note, any reason why I can't just leave that in situ?

Is the hose fuel resistant or is there a risk of the bicycle pump hose deteriorating and potentially contaminating or blocking something?

Glad you managed to get home, not sure I'd have anything if that happened to me, this time of year it'd be a nice long wait for the AA whilst freezing to death.

As NinkyNonk said, the rubber may not be suitable for use with fuel. Nice bodge though! I always keep a decent length of spill off pipe in the spares box in the Landy for this reason.

When you replace the hoses be sure you get the right size they will try and sell you 4mm ID hose which is to big, you want 3.2mm ID hose, not many people know that which goes to show I need to get out more!

3.2 .... That's bloody metric!
It used to be 1/8" in real British currency!!!

Thanks chaps. I was wondering about the fuel resistance of the rubber. Will replace with genuine and keep the bicycle tube as a back up.

Throw the bike pump rubber away, fit new spill pipe and get enough for spares use.

New spill return pipes sometimes leak or atleast did for me. I use small tie wraps on them as well. Good fix tho

This plagued me with a freelander 1. The garage insisted on supplying inferior quality Chinese return pipes which split under vibration. Lost nearly ten quids worth of diesel anorl. I know betterer now.

See thats the weird world we live in I learnt metric in school then went to work on trucks and it was all imperial, even though many years later its now all metric most of the olduns still communicate in imperial!
