The p38 experience is never dull! Tuesday the heavens opened all night and I went to work with front wipers but no rear as the arm was pointing straight down and sat nav screen was white. luckily everything else worked. Came back to the car 12 hours later in 20 degrees sunshine and as soon as it fired the rear wiper parked in it's proper place and the sat nav map came up as normal. I am curious to know how "standard" this is and where should i start looking? The sunroof and windows all work and sunroof doesn't appear to leak. I have lotss of stuff in the back which seems to be dry and the floor mats seem dry. I also jet washed it and it didn't steam up like the xj6 so first british car ever that I can get wet! Bonus!!!

Water ingress in the nearside rear quarter is not unknown or corroded connectors. Have you looked in the spare wheel well? The tailgate seals are a know problem with an official mod to fix the leaks, bend the flange on which the seal is mounted out by 5mm. It's certainly not normal behaviour.

Thanks for the ever useful info. Half the clips are missing on sub box that side so will have a proper look behind that as the speakers in it don't pop any more when I turn the ignition off with the stereo on so may well be a bit green and soggy in it's nether regions!. the tailgate seals looked quite good/recent but will check the flange angle (very british!!) .

Just check the wheel well, if dry no need to touch the seals.
