Well just fitted a new genuine water pump and new metal p gasket in -2 temperature outside, :eek:

I would not recommend this as i think in have lost the feeling in my fingers!, but on the plus side the the water now stays where it should. Happy days.
 
Lol know what you mean did my water pump last week in near freezing temps but also had the joy of being unable to get one of the bolts out so ended up cutting the the head off and using plenty of silicone on the gasket in that area. Seems good so far going to attempt to drill and tap a new bolt in when the weather warms up a bit.
 
Going great mate! Running really well - quieter now i've done the tensioner bearing too :)
Must remember to empty the tools out of the back :)
 
I've got to do my water pump and P gasket within the next week or two and could do with a few pointers. Is it an easy enough job? Anything in particular to look out for? I see that they sell sets of water pump bolts on eBay, is that because the bolts do tend to sheer off?

1. Use a 6-faced socket;

2. When refitting the bolts, put some grease on the threads;

3. Warm-up the engine a bit, it'll make bolt extraction easier;

4. Always good to have a spare set of bolts;

5. Use blue Hylomar sealant between the block/gasket/pump faces.

Thanks for that. Soon as the water pump arrives, I'll get onto it. Fingers crossed temperatures will stay above freezing for a while :). How long should if take, roughly? I'm handy with a set of spanners, but like to be methodical and thorough in the hope of not making too many mistakes, lol.
 
Cheers for that. :) the search function seems to sort by date and I obviously didn't go back far enough.
