I was wondering if there were any tanking kits available, or if there is a set routine for water proofing a petrol V8. I liked the idea of changing to a desil engine, but seems like a lot of work, plus I have LPG fitted with is a damn site cheaper!!

I wade in my V8 & int had any problems. I reckon once I've knocked up a splash guard for me dizzy I should be able to do pretty much all a doosul does.

Main things are:

A leccy fan that you can switch off.

A reliably airtight snorkel (obviously not the end where air is 'sposed to git in!)

Some kind of cover over the grill to stop the water just flooding in. An old army poncho will do (if you can stand the ridicule you'll get on here!)

Decent set of plug leads in good condition.

Other than that it's down to driving technique. Getting the speed right so you build up a bow wave & push it forward to create a trough under the injun. I wade comfortably with the bow wave just below & sometimes breaking over the bonnet line. Any deeper than that & you ought to be considering a submarine!

When you say grill, is that the radiator grill at the front? Doesn't that restrict the airflow over the rad and cause over heating? Or do you just cover it when you go wading?

Ere Grippa I saw quite a few cheap but tatty canvas tilts at Manby show. Have yer though about getting one of them and cutting it down so it'll fit over the whole bonnet and drape down over the wings. with the rear flap hanging down over the grill & lights? You could get creative and cut out holes over the headlights and fit clear plastic lenses over em. Fit some of those little 1/4 twist buckles yer get on old mg convertibles that hold the roof in places and you cud fit and remove it in a couple of minutes.

Bluddy 'ell, that would be a proper job!

S'a good idea tho'. Something that came over the bonnet rather than fitted into it would be better a keeping the water that breaks over the top out.
