Went out on the lanes yesterday and had lots of fun, that was until we went through a puddle fast, it wasnt deep and im not talking motorway speeds here but just nortmal fast lane speed. Anyway, as I went through it I got soaked inside, looks like it came up from the floor area or around that area, seat bases possibly...

I will be sealing up the seat base but is there any other usual culprits for letting lots of water in very quickly that I should be looking into??

mine did this because the bottom of the bulkhead where it meets the floor was rotten. replaced it with YRM panels and it hasnt done it since.

Yeah should have sdaid, no rot anywhere, the floor/bulkhead is all solid... I am thinking possibly the handbrake as the gaiter is loose... dont know where else there is...

Jon water can also get in through bonnet release cable hole and up behind brake and clutch pedal

Will have to have a look around there as well then, I need to get it up,on the ramp and see what's open...

this was a serious amount, it covered the screen, roof, me, iPad, stereo the lot... I don't mind a bit but it was wetter inside than out I think!

I don't know of any Tdi era defender that doesn't let water in. I get so much water getting into my 110, I have drilled Drain holes in the footwells. It doesn't seem to make any difference to the amount of water getting in, it just means it empties quicker.

I had the exact same problem shortly after buying my 90... a few weeks later my ECU packed up - water damage - guess the previous owner saw this coming

Turned out to be the inspection cover under the middle seat... the fixings had rotted and the cover was flapping in the breeze!

One new ECU, some silicone and a few new fixings later... drier, less drafty, and surprisingly quieter.... oh and alot lighter in the back pocket....

Not sure how you would have got so much water in so easily.

The entire cabin is potentially leaky - there is a seal between the floor plates and floor and transmission tunnel and floor as well as seat box etc. Bottom door seals are often missing from older Landys as they are attached to the vehicle and not the door and get ripped off easier.

Had a look at the center seat inspection plate and its held down by 1 screw, im gonna take a punt on it being the problem. I think its time to get some draft seal and do all the seat bases, might stop the backs of me legs getting cold as well!!
