Hi all, I recently changed the Wastegate modulator in my 02 td5 auto due to having problems with the acceleration dipping when between 2500 - 3000 revs. Once it was popped in it went like s*** off a shovel for a day or so. Now it's back to how it was before. How can I check to if if it's already knackered and what knackered it or is likely to be another problem. A new MAF was fitted 9 monthes agao. Any ideas?

can you still drive it if you unplug the MAF?? you can on my wifes rover 45 more torque low down just flatter at the top end ECU goes to a basic map setting see if it then still feels fluffy not sure if this will help at all :smash:

happended me last year. the'res three small pipes going into and out of the modulator, follow the pipe from the air mass meter and connnect to the one going to the wastegate diaphram, effectivley by-passing the modulator. This will allow the wastegate to dump boost manually. If it works the it's definitley the modulator. you could be tempted to leave it like that but the modulator stops the wastegate dumping to early, it's set at a specific pressure to activate thet wastegate.

Hmmm, I'm not sure exactly which pipe goes where, but once I find out I'll give it a try, but it seems strange that it would bust after just one day, and what would cause it to break? I'm under the impression that something is telling the ECU that something's not right with the turbo (or a part of it) hence when it gets to 2500 - 3000 it cuts out. As I said earlier it worked fine for about a day when the new modulator was put on.

Possible things to check:
1) knackered pipe leading into the turbo (is it easy to see?)
2) knackered modulator (again)
3) sticking wastegate
4) any more ideas?

I need to get my head around how this bit (wastegate) works and why it would shutdown, maybe a blockage somewhere?

Are u sure that wastegate controll solenoid is working properly??

Hmmm, that's got me I thought it was that, that was changed. Wastegate modulator was changed, is there a solenoid as well?

It is mentioned in the electric diagrams and trouble codes.......I just studied them as a hobby(I'm :crazy and thought it could be a hint.....besides, the engine/management is the part of the Disco which i know less............as far as I know the solenoid is the electronicly managed part of the wastegate modulator....might be component part of it......that one I'm not sure:doh:

Which leads me to the conclusion that if u have some problem with the wastegate modulator u'll see it with a scanner
