hi, could be more causes, most probable(in this order) a short within the interior fusebox/IDM, BCU fault, sticking ignition switch or sticking main relay

first of all check for water ingress at the interior fusebox, if everything is clean and dry swap relay R9(main) with R8(heated screen) for test

to ckeck the ignition switch you must unplug it while the warning lamps are on with ignition off

Good morning thank you for your reply I think it must have been a water issue as was raining heavy a few days ago and I do have the dreaded leaky roof I am only assuming this as the cause as I went out this morning and all seems to be working ok if the problem returns I will try the measures you have suggested and update the post

Kind Regards Andy

then the most obvious is water ingress in the fusebox... or in the BCU(behind the glovebox)...take measures ASAP cos you may end up immobilised when it rains again...also if ater got into the fusebox it will build up corrosion

remove the fusebox, open it and give it a treatment with this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NANOPROTE..._Body_Shop_Supplies_Paint&hash=item338b6e5d22 , so you can do with the BCU, SLABS ECU and other exposed things, to open the fusebox i found that the most easy method is to insert coins all around under the cover to release those clips then pull the cover off,(remember the fuses disposal, put thenm in order as you remove them) see some info here http://www.scribd.com/doc/195372926/Land-Rover-Discovery-II-Fuse-Box-Integrated-Relay-Repair

after you plug back the fusebox put ignition on pos II and leave it so 5 minutes to regain communication with the BCU
