Hello folks, newbie alert. I have a 1986 land rover defender 90 diesel and going to ask a really dumb question (so slap my thigh and tell me I'm stupid) but I can't find the wading plug on this beastie!

Hi @swamp bucket
What engine you got? You probably have two, one at the bottom of the timing cover and one at the bottom of the bell housing. That is if they are fitted, you may just have threaded holes.
Cheers
They shouldnt be fitted, will likely fill bellhousing and cover with oil, and or water, over time.
hello, its a 2.5 diesel, It could well be just threaded holes, will have another little looky tomorrow, thanks for the helpHi @swamp bucket

Thanks for that, will go a stand in a corner now
Only if it leaks...............

knowing me I was looking at the wrong page! lolOK, you may find the owners manual will show them. Theone that covers the 300tdi does .
Cheers
Don't I know it!Couldnt get much worse, you are in Hornchurch already!
All 86 90 will leak at least a little. And condensation will form in the housings anyway!![]()
Dumber than you think. Its a Ninety, not a Defender.
Haha don't worry I saw an empty thread hole on my bell housing and panicked only to be delicately informed on here what it was and not to worry. You got to ask or you'll never know. Thanks for that, will go a stand in a corner now

Yep same engine as me. Because of this forum my knowledge of my Landy has grown massively. I do all the serving on all of the family vehicles now, a td5, 300tdi and 3,citroens.I had the same panic a few days ago when having a rummage under by 300tdi Defender!

Funny, I let out a little nugget the first time is was under my disco and saw a hole in the bell housing didn't realise it was supposed to be like that. So popped into the local land rover specialist and sheepishly ask why is there a hole in the bell housing.
