Evening gents,

Took the old girl for an MOT and had a couple issues to rectify.

Paul who owns a local reputable garage got onto land rover to order parts, but the guys there say that the VIN given identifys it may have been military and they can't tell from it what steering box ill need.

Without giving the full vin, the letters/numbers are SALLDHAV7EA3476-- (left out last two)

Its an 1989 110 hi cap.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

If its an original hicap then the army didn't use them so not military. Plus if it were there would be plenty of telltale signs and I don't think it would be reflected in the vin. All my vin tells me is that it was made in solihull, and it was a red 1987 90 hard top. That's it

Power steering, but will only be able to find out about the bolts tomorrow.

Do you think it's straightforward once the bolt amount in known. Paul said that as its power steering there are 5 derivatives according to land rover.

Yes it's a curious case this because the guy who sold it to me had an interest in military vehicles and was making it into a military land rover-I'm sure he said it had no military history of old. Also, it should have a q plate????

Not sure what to make of it.....still I could always tell this tale about how I've a got an unusual landy that once belonged to the Queen? Or some boll oaks ;)

yes there are only 3 power steering boxes used and 6 and 4 bolt are interchangeable, i think they may have misunderstood parts book there are several 4 bolt boxes but they all supercede to the same later number

James that's extremely helpful, thanks ever so much. I'll pass that info on to Paul.

Parts wise, I need a steering box arm bottom, steering box bottom oil seal and 2 anti roll bar drop links.

I could buy and Paul fit. Can you, or anyone recommend a good parts supplier who I could get these off? Especially helpful if the price is good as I didn't mussel the beast nine months ago.....;)

if your getting another pas box you wont need a seal too ,some boxes come with drop arm but check roll bar joints are ntc1888 and cheap and you will need 2x 552819 bushes to go with each joint

The military did use hi-caps I think - the RAF, and I believe the USAF used them on some of their bases in the uk to.

You can tell an ex-mil from the vin, I can't remember what bit it is but my vin definitely comes back a 90 inch, military, and some other stuff

Hey gents,

Stumbled across another problem. I kinda worded my last question wrong.

What i need to know is what box my 110 has so we can get the correct oil seal and other ancillary parts. Is there a way of identifying which one it is out of the 5 variables?

Cheers guys

Hey James,

It actually is a v8!...... Being a lover of the landy look rather a landy mechanically, I'm ping ponging between you and my mechanic!

The bottom line is from what I can tell, Paul can't get the exact model due to the VIN not tallying up with a model, and therefore he can't identify the parts needed for the pas box, like the bottom box arm, bottom oil seal, anti roll bar drop links.....

I hope I've made sense!

all aluminun 5 speed is an lt85 use engine oil 10w 40 would do , rear seal is the same icv100000 hmm drop links as i posted earlier if they are lr ntc1888 plus the 2 bushes ,pas box need the top cover bolt number
