well as seen on another thread i swapped my speedboat for a p38. Im not sure which might be the more reliable...

anyway!

Today i just fitted a roverron synergy tuning chipset to give it a bit more omph. Its lacklustre in standard form and doing 70 seems a bit of an effort for it.

I followed the instructions... mostly....

Fitting the fuel pump wiring to the multiplug was a bit of a ballache, the instruction state to fit it to the wiring with the coloured wires but i couldnt get access to it, so it suggested fitting it to the ecu. However I didnt much fancy playing with the ECU and i was worried that if i disconnected it or the battery i might not have a key that would talk to the ignition. So i went back to the fuel pump...

the wiring from the pump was disconnected and following the pin numbering on the inside of the plug soldered to this instead. Its MUCH easier!

Runs much smoother now and notably more torque. Well worth it and surely the easiest mod to get some more power out of your vehicle?

If you have a 2.5 diesel that struggles to do 70 there is something wrong with it. The chip is just masking a problem. By all means fit it but sort the problem first.
 
Not really struggles, just .... compared to other diesel vehicles its slow as a badger with arthritis. It would do 90 but eeesshhhh it felt like i was going to kill it.

Its more like a more modern vehicle now

well i checked the viscous fan today and its seized solid. Doh! Wondered why it seemed so loud. Its also been staying too cold so should solve both problems.

Not sure whether to replace with another viscous or go the leccy fan route.
 
Well i found out last night why its always felt a bit wallowy, the rear l/h damper is not attached at the top!

Well i fixed the annoying "abs fault" message that would occasionally pop up

Also noted a new tapping noise from round the front end of the engine, which needs investigation. Next job is the viscous fan which is seized, overcooling it.

Im getting 32mpg on my normal 150 mile commute which im pretty pleased with thus far. Hopefully might get a smidgen more with sorting the viscous out as the engine will be up to temp and it obviously wont be moving all that air all the time. (albiest a 2.5 diesel engine is going to worry to much about turning that wee fan) Will also make it quite again!

Other thing that needs addressing is its slight skittishness. Cant see any bushes that are worn and havent felt any play on the wheels when i chocked it up. Its nothing major, just not as taught as my old un was. Does seem to squeal its tyres pretty easily though.
 
Have you checked the Vicous coupling? Jack one front wheel up and try to turn it blah blah blah? could be the reason your tyres are squealing
 
hmmm good idea, ill have a looksee

just in the office attempting to split the keyfob so i can fit a new un. Failing miserably thus far with a pair of scissors (though i can see me stabbing myself accidentally... dont tell the ElFnSafety bod)

ah thats why im struggling like hell.

I thought it might just be pushed together like the replacement one. Ill split it when i get home, just incase it all goes a bit pete tong. Dont much fancy getting stuck at the office :(
 
Well I removed the viscous fan.Damn its like a different engine. Quiet!!!
Surprisingly easy to do with the proper spanner too :)
 
just fitted a new keyfob as the old one was knackered. what a swine of a job! Still, the air recip saw soon saw the old fob cut open!!!

Whats the number on the back of the original keyfob? is that to do with resync'ing the ob if you need it?
 
Vil, you shoulda kept the speedboat, that way the 110 would be getting the attention...damn p38

Well I increased the concentration of biofuel I was using and within half a tank had an issue where I couldnt get above 60mph with huge losses of power. I think it had stripped all the crud out of the system and had blocked the fuel filter, I replaced it with a new one and problem solved. Its now better than it ever has been and considerably smoother. Very pleased.

Also I got a new tyre pressure gauge (not a cheapy from ching chong and reduced my tyre pressures to 32 all round. Much better handling. They were at 36 on the front but the reduction seems to have altered it quite dramatically. No more tyre squeal, and it doesnt run wide on fast cornering. Wish I had reduced it ages ago now!
 
anything i can get my hands on cheap really, from fresh olive oil to filtered wvo. Running a treat completely standard at about 50% mix with normal diesel.

Ill be installing a heated fuel filter, insulating the fuel lines and twin tanking it for the winter.
