Noticed a strong vibration when accelerating in my 300tdi, vibration as in buzzy and rattling the rear view mirror and dash. Sounds almost like a rear tyre is rubbing, but I've looked for signs on the tyres and there ain't none.

Also noticed when driving along that if I let off the accelerator and press it back on again that there's a split second of nothing and then a huge 'clunk' before the drive carries on.

Help!

Is it serious?

check the joints on the end of the propshafs for play, sounds like they are worn

Would that be the likely cause for both issues? I kinda guessed the clunk thing would be something along those lines but the buzzy vibrations got me stumped.

yes , the clunk would be the play being aken up and the vibration would be the propshaft running ecentric

they are not to bad to replace tbh about £5 ish each

This won't be causing any of the above issues as well will it?

Thats ya problems, both of em , needs changeing asap before it does any more damage, ie breaking completly and letting the prop swing around

One more question though, can I buy this part and change it by hand on my driveway or do I need specialist tools?

Ie. somebody informs me that it will require an Engineer shop to press it on.

Is that correct?

Hello flex.. I've never changed one on mine but I did recently change one on a 3 series Beamer. It did'nt need any special tools and it was very straight forward. Access was the only problem, but on the Disco there seems to be loads of room. I suspect you would'nt even need to jack it up.
