I seem to have screwed up my diff, But i am unsure weather or not i have done damage to rear diff? should i replace both? Here are some pics of how bad i broke them
Replace that ASAP - otherwise you will strip teeth all over the shop - look at the mad hat man truck thread fur pics of mine - which all happened within 3 miles!!!!
couldnt find that thread! ok well i best get to work on the back then! I have a landrover specialist near by is it a good idea to take rear diff to them so they can have a look! I know diffs are pretty complex!
sort of - remove half shafts (and check them (new gaskets reqd)) and then remove the diff.make sure yu wash the axle out well to wash any crud out of the axle casing. Ensure the lip between axle and brake plate is clean, as the diff oil appears to lubricate the hub bearings.
I am inclined to change the oil again after a 100 or so miles to remove any sludge yu couldnt get to before.
Put a trolley jack under the body of the diff to support its weight as you remove it.
I took the opportunity to check the prop shafts and grease them off the vehicle.
You might want to check the handbrake and rear wheel brakes too.
in the last week or so i have changed front wheel bearings and ujs, then the diff went yestarday so i have taken front diff out just started on rear, Got half shafts out, oh and relised i need new rear bearing because they kinda fell out in a million bits, also new oil seal are needed, Think i will buy an axle overhaul kit for front and back as everything does seem to be a little tired, Its a shame really as i only had the landy about 2 months and i paid £3500 for her, never mind Im still smiling!
