Yes mate, you have to send it off which can take up to a week, then they spend a couple of weeks processing it, by then you could of lost a month.
Then they send you a cheque............

You need to send the disc back with a V14 form availabe here
How to apply for a refund of vehicle tax : Directgov - Motoring
The refund is only aplicable from the date of postage so get it recorded, last one i sent back took 3 weeks for the cheque to arrive, make sure you sorn the vehical or delclare it scrapped as soon as possable (try and do it daily on the web) or the Bstds will fine you £40 for not retaxing or sorning the vehical (long storey but i won,,,, in the end)
