Had to bite the bullit and buy a new one today as s/h unit packed up on way to work this morning. still going to refurb my old unit though, now got a new problem, book symbols on on the hevac. How do i get it off as beleive it was caused by the alternator and having to disconnect the battery.

This is the same regulator, from the same supplier (no affiliation), set at 14.7v that I fitted to mine as per the response above. It runs around 14.4v once the start up drain is recovered and about 14v with lots on. Two years and 60K later it's been fine with no flat batteries. You can't be robbed at £12!

Only if you have a calcium battery. 14.7 is too high for a normal lead acid battery.

This is an interesting thread.

We rebuild alternators, especially the real expensive ones.

We can also, if needed, supply all the parts for you to rebuild yourself.

presume my book symbol on the hvac has been caused by disconnecting the battery as the heating controls all work, apart from bum warmers and windscreen looking like a zebra crossing when used,

Virtually all automotive batteries are lead calcium, certainly all low/no maintenance batteries.:)

Yes any that are sealed will more than likely be that is true. Point was IF it is a normal battery 14.7 will boil it. That voltage is only suitable for calcium type. Likewise 14.2 will never fully charge a calcium battery. They need 14.4 minimum i think.

14.2 to 14.8 volts seems to be the recomended range:D

Seems anything less than 14.2 will never fully charge deep discharged calcium battery leading to premature fail apparently.
Absolutely right, less than 14.2 volts will not even keep the battery topped up, especially if the car does mostly short journeys.

Hi, hope this helps, I have just checked a spare alternator I have in my garage. It is a Valeo that was bought refurbed by Dansk. The numbers on their label are 215.121.952 and X07791/4. On the test certificate they give an Original number A13V118. Regards:)
