New HT leads and new fuel filter fitted. Just waiting for the new distributor cap and rotor to arrive. I changed the plugs (lordy!) for new and all the screw on caps were loose, they are not now. It is firing better but not perfect yet. The old plugs were very dark but gaps were correct and the gap itself clear.

I wrote the numbers on, to see if there was any difference between the plugs. Clearly it is running very rich at the moment.

I have my fingers crossed that the new rotor and cap, will sort it.
 
Just to be clear, you count cylinders from the radiator to the bulkhead, so number 1 and 2 are at the front of the engine
