My Range Rover cuts out when switched to petrol from lpg,I had it set up to start on lpg couple of years ago,its been working fine up to now but when it is switched over to petrol just dies.I know this is not a major problem with the price of petrol where it is its just that i was told to switch it back form time to time to keep system in working order.Any suggestions please

once every two years is not that often. sounds like they didn't switch the fuel pump off when it was running gas and pump will be fubar due to running in empty tank

this happened the other day after disconecting battery for charging, put battery back in and the gas system would not change back to petrol.its been working fine up to now.the gas system was fitted couple of years ago and set up to start on gas, sorry for any confussion

So does it change to petrol then die...or not change over at all....

Your posts offer confusion...in the first you say it switches and dies...in the second, it doesn't change over at all....

If you haven't run it on Petrol for a while the injectors will be gunged up as the petrol spraying through keeps them clean....

Also as mentioned, if the tank is dry the pump will be shagged...

Also if there has been petrol circulating but not used, the fuel rail has a pressure regulating valve that is spring loaded and returns any over pressure petrol back to the tank, if this has been open continuously, it could weaken the spring, and as such you have no fuel pressure....

Also (Last one I promise) are there any issues with the Intake Pipes?? If the LPG has 'burped' and blown back trhough the intake pipes and split one, it won't run on petrol well if at all. Also could the MAF be knackered due to a backfire or general wear and tear....

Most LPG systems don't use the MAF or the pipe work prior to the Gas ring, so splits don't matter...but when on petrol, the ECU uses the MAF to measure the air going in, so if there is a split, it messes it up...

What year vehicle is it?? What type of LPG system is it, and don't forget to put your location in, there maybe a kind soul living close who can help.

It dies straight away on flicking the switch.

I have been switching over to petrol regularly about once a week.

Tank never ran dry.

I will check pipework for splits as it did backfire the other day.
Many thanks to all for your help

When I bought my '93 3.9 Classic on Gas...on the trip home, the thing backfired and split a pipe....it would not start on petrol, and when forced to start on gas it was reluctant, but managed it, as soon as you switched to petrol it died....

Just my two penneth

I have a 99 P38 with a multipoint system fitted which starts on petrol then when warmed up automatically switches to gas. After 2 or 3 miles on gas it goes back to petrol which I presumed was cold water coming through from the thermostat opening. I then leave it for a few miles then manually switch it back to gas. But it may sometimes switch back to petrol.
At the present time it starts up on petrol when cold and dies after about 10 seconds but if I give it plenty of revs by feathering the throttle until the temp gauge moves off from cold it switches onto gas and then runs fine but not happy on petrol and acts if it is running on 6 cylinders only. I always make sure I have a quarter tank of petrol in, as I had to have a new pump fitted which was worn out by not having enough fuel in the tank to give it some lubrication.

So as said above, it keeps switching off gas and onto petrol but will start up OK on gas when still warm.
Any Idea's ?
