I have recently acquired a 2009 Defender 90 truck cab 2.4 TDCi

The battery compartment (under the passenger seat) had a loose (disconnected) plastic pipe in it - see the picture. I have no idea what it is for. Does anyone know? It has a Land Rover label on it with number *7H12-10A818-AA but I cannot find any part number listing with that number.

one end of the pipe has a plastic right angled plug on it (which is removable). The other end is open

Is it some sort of drain pipe?

No idea- too posh and new for me but I would guess a vent for the (original?) Battery or the compartment itself .

Looks like a battery breather. I haven't seen one in years, I'm surprised there' one on a 2009 car.

Same story with me, I purchased a 2010 Defender 90 2.4 TDCI Puma and found crushed under the battery, the same hose and googled the part number which led me to this forum!
One end was still plugged into a small hole in the bottom of the battery compartment, front left of the compartment if you were sitting in the driver’s seat.
The fitted battery is not the original and it had no obvious place for a breather hose to be fitted so just took the hose out for now.
