Trying really hard not to modify my "new" D1 too much, but wondered if anyone knows whether adding underbody protection will add to the insurance.

Got fleeced on insurance with my v8 due to the mods (lift mainly I think), so trying to avoid the same with this one.

Any modifications need to be declared, most insurance companies won't add anything

as said declare everything no matter how minor you think it is,that way they cant wriggle out of a claim

As above mine went up £150 at 23 years old for a d90 with lift kit all guards on diffs and stearing, locking diffs cb radio light bar bigger wheel and tyres bonnet pins winch upper and warn winch side exist exshuasts snorkel even the orange becon on the roof got declared and the tow bar, cost me £680 fully comp for me @ 23 with my other half at 26 as well the mods 3k year as it don't get used much

I know that insurance companies will try and get out of paying a claim - even a non standard radio has to be declared. Sounds like it should be slightly less painful without the major stuff like a lift kit. I found a lot of companies (even some of the so called 4x4 specialists) just refused to quote on my v8 saying they wouldn't cover modified vehicles.

WTF.......you mean to tell me that if you change the radio you need to tell the bloody insurance company!!!!!!!!

well they asked me what radio was in my series i told them i had a ****ty old cd player and an 8 track

then i got the question " whats one of them ????"

Yep, some companies will look for any reason not to pay. I'm sure not all companies would be so anal about it, but a colleague of mine had a payout refused initially on the grounds of an undeclared "modification" - the radio/cassette had been replaced by an MP3 capable. They did pay out eventually when he complained, they blamed an "over zealous loss adjuster".
