After speaking to a few people we thought the only way this would happen was to put it on a new chassis and try to register it as a Q plate, only problem being as I don't know much about this.

For what the scrap yard owner was saying the chassis isn't allowed to leave unless its crushed whereas most of the car can be used as parts, I've got a mini with that sticker on the back also
As I understand it the whole vehicle is supposed to be scrapped. The chassis and engine are identifiable so cant be used on road. Wouldnt it be naughty if someone welded in a repair section with a different chassis number.
Scrappage was another one of Gay Gordons poorly thought through schemes. It took the wrong cars off the road. In order to get excessive payment for the elderly car the owner had to buy a new one, these are the people that generally could afford to maintain their cars, so the scrapped cars often excellent. The old wrecks that were run on a shoestring were left behind. No wonder its so hard to find any car at all worth buying below £1000

I contacted the dvla seeing if the chassis was replaced with a new part whether it could go back on the road as a Q plate, I'm just waiting to find out a response
well that was a silly thing to do... the answer is no from the DVLA.
The WHOLE vehicle should have been crushed. The scrappage scheme wasn't meant to allow the vehicles to be broken and sold on it parts (yes it was a massively stupid scheme)
However... if the owner of the scrap yard will sell you everything except the chassis then do it, the vehicle ID belongs to the chassis, as suggested, just get a chassis from one with a dead body, put 2 and 2 together... or buy a galv chassis and Q plate it.
But, don't tell the DVLA you're getting the body, etc. from a scrappage scheme donner... that's not allowed (but it will be the scrap yard breaking the rules, not you)

If you happen to have a good used chassis from a scrapped vehicle, I can't see any issue in using that. It'd have a Q-plate, but if you're building something up with a bunch of other parts from scrapped vehicles, it'd get that anyway.
What's that? All the parts came from the same scrapped vehicle? Gosh, what a remarkable coincidence. What are the odds on that happening...?
