I'd say Maxxis are pretty much middle of the line. Not on par with the top brands but better than the cheap trash. I have a pair of Maxxis tyres on the rear, they seem ok.

can get 4 fitted balanced and tracked for £320.
do you u get much road noise??
 
to answer the question, are they any good? i use them on 2 of my road motorbikes and they`re fine. good mileage, decent wet weather grip and cheap.
not used any on a car yet.
 
I have maxxis mud terrains. They are very capable and still look new after about 2000 miles. They go off road every weekend and don't have a scratch on them. The pattern is very similar to mud terrains. They grip well on road but mine are very big (285/75 r16) so they do move about a bit on sharp corners.

Hard to say because I have nothing else to compare it with, only my previous car which was much much quieter but as we're only talking about tyres here, that wouldn't be a fair comparison.
 
I've got Maxxis 245/75/16 AT's on my TD5 Disco. They seem OK re noise, road holding etc. Can't comment on off-road ability. On the car when I bought it.
Funny as I was just about to post the question re whether they would be heavier on fuel than the standard 235/70/16 Pirelli Scorpions as I've got a set of them as well.

I do have a set of road tyres and they are much quieter than the maxxis ones. It's simple, you have to compromise. You want to go off road, you put up with the noise. You want to go on road, they will be quieter but not be any good off road. In my opinion ATs are utter ****e. They are road tyres. Don't do things in halves, get some real MTs for off road or some nice road tyres for on road. ATs are a total con.

ATs cause more rolling resistance than normal road tyres, so you will get slightly less MPG. Same effect as having under inflated tyres basically.
