Hi there, need to ask a question, and hope not to cause a tyre war, like on another forum I frequent.
At present we have 215-65-16, all different makes, and nearing the legal limit.The spare is a goodyear, as new. What is the correct tyre size, and make. Also would 205-80-16 Bridgestone Deuler be ok, or do you guys have personal alternatives.
Not too bothered about winter tyres, just a good allrounder. Thanks
 
Original wheel/tyre fitment was either 195/80/15 or 215/65/16 (or it was for my 2001 model). 15" wheels were 5.5J and 16" were 6J

205/80/15 would increase your overall diameter by about 5cm and your rolling radius by about 15cm. Sorry I've no idea if they'll fit and your speedo will be way out..... Personally I'd stick to original sizes, there's several good options available in both sizes.Shop around, prices vary enourmously and don't forget your spare needs changing too. Keep them rotated for even wear - it'll save you money in the long run
 
Over the years Freelanders have left the factory with several different brands of rubber.

Michelin, Goodyear or Continental + lord knows what else........

215/65 R16 is the correct original 16" size.

IMHO the 205/80 R16 are much too big a change in circumference. Others may not agree.

The Continental 4X4 CrossContact is what I'm running right now and having tried others I'm very pleased with them. They are best on-road, but are OK for light off-road too.

I found the Michelin Synchrone (now superceded by Latitudes) to be noisy and compared to the Contis, harsh.

I found the Goodyears were not suited to my 'press on' style of driving on twisty roads. Would be OK on motorways though.

Very personal things tyres - very subjective things they are - I'm sure you'll get conflicting opinions.

As for budget tyres - well I can't afford them. I do too many miles.

20mph and about £30

H is up to 130mph V is up to 150mph

Can't go that fast in Freelander - can you - I can't.

Uh oh - someone will tell us they can.
 
Said it before & I'll say it again "you can't go wrong with Marshall / Kumho KL78s" or powerguard or roadventure or whatever fancy name they've given them this week. 20000km on them in the Syncro in all weathers on all surfaces including last years 2 foot of snow... Ran Maxxis on the Disco & Syncro too which were very good. Bought a new set of 195/80/15 KL78s for the FL and so far so good and only £70 a corner fitted, balanced, valves etc and old ones chucked.

Whatever you buy be more interested in the load rating than whether they're good for 150mph though :)

Yup - and they have the cheek to put the word 'cheap' in the by-line eh.

I paid £182 each for my Conti 4X4 crosscontact - 235/55 R17s - fitted and balanced.

Thank the lord for locking wheel-nuts eh.
 
Crikey! That's some pricey tyres you chaps have.
I've been cringing at the thought of £105 each for BFG ATs on the VW.....
 
I'm also buy - 'pre-owned' tyres on eBay at £40 to £70 a pair with from 5 to 7mm of tread. :D

Due to a puncture and nothing suitable on eBay at the time I recently had to actually buy a new one - ouch it hurt. :(:mad::(
 
price wise there definitely seems to be a huge range out there.
I did actually once buy a used set off ebay..... only been used to drive a vitara to an mot, which it failed dismally and then on to the scrap yard. You could see they'd done no more than about 20 miles :)
 
running michelin lattitudes on mine, 215/65/r16. Costco are doing 20% off a set of 4 at the moment, if you are a member or know someone who is.

I use 15 inch version - quiet grippy - cheap - go on Youtube there is info there ....
the 195 15 inch ones were £55....
 
Michelin Latitude tyres.............told by tyre suppliers,.......ok but there are better.
Kumho........very difficult to get hold of but good.
Continentals 4x4 Crosscontact...........Good, but Goodyear Allweather are better, in his opinion.(We could get for £84 incl VAT, valves, fitting balancing)

Goodyear All weather...£89 a corner including VAT, Fitting, valves and balancing.
This is priced for 215 x 65 x 16
 
A very good deal there - half the price of the Contis. :eek:

Quick - get them fitted before he puts the price up. :D
