I've got Michelin XL 9.00x16 of my Series III 88". They perform fantastically, BUT you'll need quite a few serious modifications to get them on.I'm looking for some tyres for my 2a and was wondering if I should get two sets, one for on road and one for off, or should I get some all terrain tyres, any thought's?
P.S. Like the look and size of michelin XL 9.00 x 16 but don't know how they perform.
Thanks.
Michelin XL's cost from between £50-£80 +VAT each depending on how worn they are. I went for the ones at £60 each, almost new. The £80 ones are pretty much totally unworn.I think i'll get the XL's for off roading, just need some road tyres now.
How much do the XL's cost along with rims?
sorry to (sort of) hijack the thread. but I would love to know what the best size/width of tire to use for my series 3 88" (for road use, as I have an abundance of spare offroad tires and wheels for it)
radials are preferable, and im after the best on road handling (sealed roads of course)
its currently on some offroad type 700/16's

In the dry pretty well. In the wet I slow down a lot.How do the michelins handle on the road? Like in the wet and around corners.
No point in going faster if you can't slow down faster. 900's are seriously heavy tyres and have an awful lot of inertia. Your 2a brakes will struggle to slow them down once they're spinning. Mine is a late Series 3, so 11" front brakes and dual line servo brakes. it still takes some stopping and keeping the brakes in top order is essential or you're going to die.Definitely have to get some road tyres then as the whole reason for fitting a 300tdi was to go faster!
