Hi chaps, looking for some advice...

about two weeks ago I brought 4 nice shiny new General Grabber AT2s for me landy. Tyres were fitted at 2pm, when I went outside the house at 8pm that night two were too flat to drive on!! Managed to get a lift into work the next day, and phoned the tyre place who sent out their mobile van to fix it. I wasn't there, but apparently there was a problem with the valves... anyway I got home and everything seemed right, and had been until today.

Got in the truck about 7 tonight to drive home (3 miles), and noticed that one of the tyres I'd previously had problems with was flat again :( phoned me brother to bring us a footpump, pumped it up and drove it home. It's now sitting outside the house with the valve hissing away, it appears from the rubber at the bottom, not the brass fitting.

I've just checked, and the tyre place is open from 8.30 tomorrow. What's my best bet? To phone them first thing and see if they send the van out, or be there at 8.30 ready for them to open the door? I am meant to be chainsaw carving at an event all this bank holiday, so I'm going to be late tomorrow so want it fixed ASAP really, don't want to be sitting round til the afternoon waiting for a van guy!

Be there at 8:15 in front of the garage door and have your receipt in hand. Be a little ****ed , ask what kind of shop they have , remind him word of mouth travels very fast, and mention you are sending a email to customer service department of General tire company. And that you need your car to make a living with. Good lick:):)

cheers for replies, I think being outside the door all stewed up is probably the answer! Shop is about 15 miles away so will cost me something to get there, a fact I will mention along with being self employed and needing the truck for business.

Shop is a large chain, so not a small one man band. So they should be more worried when I mention complaints procedures etc, surely?

Well done, you might have saved someone else from the same woes. Also, if it's a one off, others will say if they had good service from them etc.
 
To be honest the only reason I didn't name and shame in the first post was that at least one of the other forums I post on has a definite no naming policy, resulting in warnings and bans. And I couldn't be arsed to try and find the rules for this site, and trawl through them...

but if it saves someone else from the hassle then it's worth it!
 
It is almost common practice to replace tyre valves when doing a tyre change.
I work as a service advisor for Ford and Mazda and have seen it many times in the past when the valves don't get changed. you either end up with the problem you have or otherwise they seem to suffer from never holding good pressure. Either way i would ask them to replace all tyre valves otherwise you may find the other 2 have problems as well.
it is their problem they need to resolve

it was going so well untill the dreaded "T" word reared its ugly head..

Should be easy for them to fix, and I'd hope they'll be as embarassed as you are ****ed off.

Shouldn't be any need to shout and threaten - politeness and calmness gets the best results when complaining, but no reason not to share that you are frustrated, disappointed and don't have the time to have the same job done 3 times

Hope you get it sorted
 
cheers all, I will let you know what the outcome is tonight. I'm not really the shouting and raging sort, but I will have my dissapointd face on, and hope they get it fixed properly this time!
 
If they dont fix the problem I would drop into the conversation the chainsaw carving thing. :D
 
haha well the back of the pickup will be well loaded with 3 chainsaws, biggest is 90cc with a 36" bar on! Also 10 litres of petrol, axes, billhooks etc... :D

good thing I'm not easily worked up I suppose!

well the outcome was they fixed the flat wheel, apparently there was a sticker on the inside of the tyre rubbin against the inner tube, caused a puncture. I enquired if I could expect the same problem on the other three tyres, and was told "probably not"... they were also unable to balance the wheel as they had lost the spacer for the machine...

so on Tuesday I wrote a letter of complaint to their head office, CC'd to the Gloucester branch and trading standards. It is now going in tomorrow to be properly done, they have brought the proper valves and the spacer for their machine has been found! amazing what a letter can do!
